MEP Flego's proposals on transport adopted, €26bn available to Croatia under CEF

ZAGREB, 13 April (Hina) - All proposals submitted last November by Croatian Member of the European Parliament Valter Flego to the Transport and Tourism Committee for the improvement of rail and road connections was on Thursday adopted by the said committee.

According to Flego, 26 billion euros from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) is now available to Croatia and now it is up to the executive authorities to tap those funds.

His proposals were endorsed by 44 votes in the 45-strong committee, and Flego of the Istrian Democratic Party (IDS), and a member of the Renew Europe Group, was quoted in a press release issued by his office as saying that the proposals had been adopted thanks to the great support of all Croatian MEPs as well as by the Italian and Slovenian MEPs from the Renew group.

Croatia will finally be connected to crucial European hubs through the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), that is by road, sea, air and rail, Flego said, underlining that since Croatia's admission to the EU in mid-2013, this was the first time for Croatian deputies to take pat in the revision of the European transport corridors.

Under his proposal, the Pula-Buzet-Divača-Trieste rail route would be part of a pan-European rail corridor.

The Istrian seaport of Brščica will have a connection to the railway infrastructure, he added.

Flego also lobbies for the construction of a new railway from Zagreb via Maribor to Graz and for the inclusion of the Port of Rijeka to the Baltic-Adriatic corridor.

One of his proposals is to extend the Mediterranean corridor from Rijeka to Split which will revive the Lika rail route.

These and some other proposals submitted by Flego should now be also endorsed by the European Parliament which is supposed to do that on Monday.
