Cetina Bridge near Omiš joined together

ZAGREB, 9 March (Hina) - A 225-metre-long bridge over the Cetina River Canyon in the coastal town of Omiš was fully joined together at a ceremony on Thursday morning, and the project cost €23.16 million (excluding Value Added Tax).

The bridge, which is part of the Omiš bypass road, spans the Cetina River with a steel arch, the ends of which are secured in tunnels on both sides of the bridge, making its length greater than the visible structure.

In attendance at the ceremony was Prime Minister Andrej Plenković who described the project as "a great thing for Omiš, Dalmatia and Split-Dalmatia County".

He is hopeful that the Omiš bypass infrastructure will be completed until this autumn, and that the bridge will be open to traffic then.

The bridge is a contribution to the improvement of the road infrastructure in Croatia, said the PM.

The newly-built bridge complements the scenery of a wider Omiš area. The main designer of the bridge is engineer Veljko Prpić, and the bridge has been built by Strabag.

The construction of the bridge and a bypass was presented in 2014 as part of the Multimodal Platform of the Split agglomeration Solin - Stobreč - Dugi rat - Omiš.

The Split Agglomeration Multimodal Platform project is divided into several phases, and the Dugi Rat Junction Road (DC8) section - Dugi Rat junction - Omiš junction is one of the phases of that project. The whole investment is estimated at €324 million, and the total length is 21.5 kilometers.
