No reports on possible damage after 4.8 magnitude quake hits Krk

ZAGREB, 16 Feb (Hina) - There are no reports for now that a 4.8-magnitude earthquake which rocked the island of Krk shortly before 1100 hrs Thursday has caused any injuries or any significant damage, Croatian Civil Protection director Damir Trut told Hina an hour after the first information about the tremor.

Trut said that local citizens in the wider area of Rijeka (Kvarner) and in Istria reported having felt the shaking and the furniture in their homes moving, but no other things were reported.

Also local firefighting services have not received any information about any major damage.

The island of Krk was hit by an earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale at 1047 hours on Thursday, the Croatian Seismological Service said soon after the first reports about the tremor in western Croatia.

Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said that he had been in contact with the local authorities after the breaking news about the quake and that they also reported no major damage.
