Firinger received the award for rescuing three Osijek Jews during WWII, members of the Fischer family, Margaret and her two underage children, Lelja and Darko.
The award and medal were given to Firinger's daughter Vera Piletić by Israeli Ambassador Gary Koren.
The ceremony was held several days after the Croatian government adopted the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance's (IHRA) working definitions of antisemitism, Holocaust denial and distortion and anti-Roma discrimination. Croatia will chair the IHRA as of March.
Koren said the adoption of the working definitions was a very important step for Croatia.
Firinger is the 130th Croatian awarded the Righteous Among the Nations title.
