Festivity of Saint Tryphon inscribed on UNESCO's world heritage list

ZAGREB, 29 Nov (Hina) - The Festivity of Saint Tryphon and the Kolo (chain dance) of Saint Tryphon, traditions of Croats from Montenegro's Bay of Kotor, have been inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, the Croatian Ministry of Culture and Media said on Tuesday.

The decision was unanimously made by UNESCO's Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage at its meeting in Rabat, Morocco on Tuesday.

The festivity and the dance were nominated by the Ministry of Culture and Media in cooperation with the associations of Boka Croats in Croatia to reaffirm their value and importance not only as part of national heritage but also of world heritage.

"Today's inscription is an acknowledgement to all those who made an effort to ensure that this part of our intangible heritage is saved from disappearance as well as a strong encouragement to ensure that it lives on by implementing various measures to protect it. This remarkable heritage is proof of the millennial presence of Croats in the Bay of Kotor. It is deeply rooted in people's mentality and is an important part of their lives today," the Ministry said in a statement.
