Croatian counties and Poland's Union of Voivodeships on energy crisis

ZAGREB, 14 Sept (Hina) - Karlovac County head Martina Furdek Hajdin represented the Croatian County Association at the assembly of Poland's Union of Voivodeships in Karpacz, where the discussion focused on the energy crisis in Europe, stronger connections between regions and better transport connections in Central Europe.

The office of the county head said on Wednesday that Furdek Hajdin also had a separate meeting with the chairman of the Union of Voivodeships, Olgierd Geblewicz, who is also the head of West Pomeranian Voivodeship, because the two regions cooperated according to a previously signed cooperation agreement. It was pointed out that Polish regions were among the first to support Croatia during its accession to the European Union.

The cooperation continued when we first took part in the creation of operational programmes for the European financial envelope, good practice models were exchanged through forums between Polish and Croatian regions, and now new activities have been agreed, in accordance with new challenges, Furdek Hajdin's office said in a press release.

The crisis that hit Europe due to the coronavirus pandemic and the war in Ukraine required swift responses from European regions, but also the protection of the principle of subsidiarity, said Geblewicz, adding that the changes start from the level of government closest to the citizens. He recalled that cooperation between Croatian counties and Polish voivodeships had lasted since 2011, and a new meeting had been announced for next year, with Polish and Croatian heads of local and regional government continuing to cooperate through the European Committee of the Regions, the press release said.
