Horse-driven carriages arrive in Marian shrine of Marija Bistrica for pilgrimage

ZAGREB, 21 Aug (Hina) - The traditional 20th pilgrimage of horse-ridden carriages and horsemen was held in Croatia's central Marian shrine of Marija Bistrica on Sunday, and the event called "Vozočašće" in Croatian was organised by the horse-breeders' association in Krapina-Zagorje County.

Addressing the event, Agriculture Minister Marija Vučković, promised further help to the horse-breeding sector.

The agriculture ministry's state secretary, Zdravko Tušek, said that currently there are over 30,000 horses in Croatia, and 700 of them are in Krapina-Zagorje County where there are also over 300 horse breeders.

The county's prefect, Željko Kolar, said that "Vozočašće" pilgrimage contributes to " the local culture, tradition and tourism."

 In attendance at the event was a former president, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović.
