Croatia's first robotics classroom opens in Bjelovar

ZAGREB, 29 June (Hina) - The first robotics classroom in Croatia was opened in a primary school in Bjelovar (about 80 kilometres northeast of Zagreb) on Tuesday as part of the HRK 2.17 million (€290,000) EU-funded project Bjelovar Robotics Centre.

The head of the Bjelovar-Bilogora County association of IT specialists, Branko Raičković, said that roughly half of this amount was intended for the purchase of equipment, including robots, computers and furniture, which would remain in the school's possession after the completion of the project.

"We are the only school in Croatia with a robotics centre, a separate classroom intended solely for an expert group of students," Raičković said, adding that Fourth Primary School is a project partner.

The Bjelovar Robotics Centre is 85 per cent financed from the European Social Fund, while the remaining 15 per cent is provided by the Government Office for Non-Governmental Organisations. The project aims to increase the capacity of civil society organisations promoting STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).
