Of the 268 transplants conducted, kidney was the most frequently transplanted organ (124), followed by liver (104), heart (34) and lungs (9), and there were also three liver-kidney transplants and six kidney-pancreas transplants.
National Organ and Tissue Donor Day is an occasion to thank all donors and our transplant and coordination teams who have made Croatia one of the most successful members of Eurotransplant and one of the leading countries in the world for organ donations and transplants, Health Minister Vili Beroš said.
It is significant that the lung transplant programme was launched in the pandemic year 2021, increasing access to transplants and their quality for Croatian patients, he added.
In 2006, the Croatian Sabor proclaimed 26 May as National Organ and Tissue Donor Day which is marked every year with the aim of informing the public of the importance of making a personal decision to donate one's organs and promoting the culture of organ donation.
