European 112 Day marked

ZAGREB, 11 Feb (Hina) - The Croatian Civil Protection Directorate organised a communication exercise for the civil protection services in all 20 counties and the City of Zagreb on Friday on the occasion of European 112 Day, observed on 11 February to raise awareness of the Europe-wide emergency number 112.

The exercise was carried out for the purposes of a timely, fast and efficient coordination of the emergency services using the TETRA radio communications system.

The Europe-wide emergency telephone number 112 was introduced in 1991, integrating all emergency services into a single system.

Croatia's 112 emergency response system comprises 20 county call centres that function as a single operations and communications centre for all types of emergency situations.

Last year the 112 centres recorded 1,872,866 calls. From 2005, when the 112 service was launched in Croatia, to the end of 2021, more than 32 million calls were received.

In 2021, 583,532 incidents were recorded, including 324,659 medical incidents, 177,715 security incidents, 49,180 complex incidents and 31,978 fire incidents.
