SNV secures vehicle for transport of elderly residents of Gospić, Lovinac

ZAGREB, 4 Feb (Hina) - The Serb National Council (SNV) has expanded its "From door to door" project to include Gospić, providing the elderly population of the rural parts of Gospić and Lovinac with transport and escort for various social services, and on Friday an escort-chauffeur was given a vehicle to use for this purpose.

The vehicle and the service in the first year of the project will cost HRK 220,000, and the chauffeur, Valentin Kuprešanin, was handed over the car by Independent Democratic Serb Party MP Anja Šimpraga and Lika-Senj County deputy head Milan Uzelac.

Šimpraga said she could promise as an MP that she would work to have the project continue expanding because the "Make a wish" project and the SNV's "From door to door" project were the best projects in rural areas.

"They improve the quality of life of elderly people, members of my ethnic community and of the majority people alike," she said.

"This is a valuable project because problems with public transport in rural areas are big, there is almost no public transport, and this way people can see their doctor, collect their pension, take care of their basic needs. That is why I hope that after Gospić and Lovinac in Lika we will secure funds for these services also in the area of Knin, possibly Obrovac, and in Slavonia in the area of Voćin and Pakrac," said the Serb minority MP.

The project "From door to door" provides for the needs of 70-90 people above the age of 65 from low-income households in each municipality covered by the project.

Project head Tatjana Dragičević of the SNV said the project was launched to make medical, administrative and financial services available to elderly citizens as well as enable them to do the shopping.
