Croatian soldiers in NATO battlegroup in Poland receive US recognition

ZAGREB, 21 Jan (Hina) - Six Croatian soldiers have been recognised by the US as the most successful members of the NATO battlegroup in Poland, the Ministry of Defence said on Friday.

On Thursday, a ceremony was held on a military training ground in Poland to award the most successful members of the NATO battlegroup, and six member of the 8th Croatian contingent received recognition.

The 3rd Battalion, 161st Infantry Regiment of the Washington National Guard will list them in the book of worthy individuals who excel in military service.

Croatian Defence Minister Mario Banožić congratulated the Croatian soldiers, saying that they had demonstrated a high level of professionalism, dedication and commitment.

"I wholeheartedly congratulate on this great recognition members of the Croatian Armed Forces, who have once again shown that exemplary and persistent work and behaviour are the best promoters of our values, and also the best way to protect state interests," said the minister, as carried by the press release.

The Croatian Armed Forces have participated in the US-led battlegroup since October 2017, with an artillery battery of self-propelled multiple rocket launchers.

There are currently 80 Croatian soldiers in Poland, and since 2017 a total of 635 of them have participated in NATO's Enhanced Forward Presence activities. The Croatian Armed Forces will provide support to allies in that area with a PzH 2000 battery until 2023, the press release said.
