EU-funded project protects 124 properties against flooding in Mura cross-border area

ZAGREB, 26 Aug (Hina) - The final conference on the occasion of the completion of the €2.9 million FRISCO 2.2. project, designed to improve cross-border flood protection, was held in the northern Croatian town of Sveti Martin na Muri on Thursday.

The project, which was funded by the European Union in the amount of 85% of the eligible costs, aims to reduce the threat of the cross-border river Mura flooding the areas it runs through.

The remaining 15% of the costs were covered by the Hrvatske Vode state-run water management company and the Slovenian state-owned water management company.

An embankment built in Sveti Martin na Muri on the Croatian bank as well as on the Slovenian bank in the town of Benica helps 124 properties and more than 200 people to be better protected against floods.

The head of the Slovenian state-owned water management company, Roman Kramer, said today the two countries had agreed to continue cooperating in such projects.
