It was the third time in the history of the Olympic Games that the men's doubles final featured players from the same country. Last time this happened was in London in 1908 when the title was claimed by the British.
New Zealanders Marcus Daniell and Michael Venus defeated Americans Austin Krajicek and Tennys Sandgren 7-6 (3), 6-2, capturing bronze. It was the first tennis medal for New Zealand in the history of the Olympics.
With the two new medals, the tennis gold and silver, Croatia has so far won a total of six medals in Tokyo - three golds, a silver and two bronzes.
