HOO marks 100 days to Tokyo Olympics

ZAGREB, 13 April (Hina) - Ahead of the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, to be held from 23 July to 8 August, the Croatian Olympic Committee (HOO) held a brief ceremony by the fountains outside the National and University Library in Zagreb to mark 100 days to their opening.

The event was held in line with epidemiological restrictions and it was attended by Japanese Ambassador Misako Kaji, HOO vice-president Sandra Čorak and Croatian athletes who will compete in the Tokyo Olympics - the Olympic medal winning rower Damir Martin and two first-time competitors - teakwondo fighter Kristina Tomić and swimmer Franko Grgić.

"We are looking forward to the Olympic Games in Tokyo regardless of the unusual circumstances in which they will be taking place. Most importantly, an entire generation of athletes will get a chance to make their sport dreams come true and we are particularly looking forward to seeing our athletes compete," said Čorak.

Ambassador Kaji said that the organisers and local hosts were working hard to prepare the Games, which, she said, would be held as a symbol of diversity and global unity and proof of efforts to overcome the pandemic and rebuild the country after the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. She noted that spectators around the world would be able to participate in the Games via IT technologies.
