New student dormitory opened in Dubrovnik

ZAGREB, 15 February (Hina) - A new HRK 216 million dormitory with 254 accommodation units that can cater for 503 students was opened in Dubrovnik on Monday.

The project was co-funded in the amount of HRK 151 million from European Union funds. The four-floor building offers a lot of amenities, including a fitness centre, multi-purpose hall, laundry facilities, and underground parking lot for 179 vehicles.

Addressing the red-ribbon-cutting ceremony, Rector Nikša Burum said the new dorm made Dubrovnik a student-friendly city.

Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, who attended the ceremony, said that in the last four years, his cabinet invested HRK 1.3 billion in the construction of ten dormitories for higher education students.

In order to improve the standard of higher education students, the government has also ensured funds to subsidise the food, accommodation and commuting costs of students.

Annually 13,800 state scholarships are awarded. All this is being done to create preconditions for efficient learning and to enable our young people to achieve excellence and be competitive on the labour market, the premier added.
