Večernji List: EU to donate additional COVID-19 vaccine doses to Croatia?

ZAGREB, 16 January (Hina) - The European Commission is in talks with member states to redirect some of the COVID-19 vaccine from the common quota to Croatia as part of earthquake relief, Večernji List daily wrote on Saturday.

Sixteen EU member states have sent and are still sending aid to Croatia after a 6.2 magnitude earthquake devastated the Petrinja area on 29 December.

The aid, in the form of housing containers, tents, electric heaters and similar items, is being provided through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. Some countries are sending aid independently, such as Serbia and Ukraine, whose government has decided to donate €574,000 for earthquake victims.

In addition to this, Croatia could also expect assistance in the form of additional doses of the COVID-19 vaccine which EU member states might redirect from their own reservations of the vaccine, Večernji List said citing unofficial sources.

A decision on how many additional doses Croatia might get has not been made yet, but two different sources in Brussels have confirmed that Croatia has requested this and that efforts are being made to meet this request, the newspaper said.
