Treasury of Split Cathedral reopens after renovation

ZAGREB, Oct 4 (Hina) - The Treasury of Split's Cathedral of Saint Domnius, housed in the renovated Skocibusic-Lukaris Palace next to the cathedral, was reopened earlier this week as part of ceremonies marking 1,600 years since the death of Saint Jerome, the patron saint of Dalmatia.

Saint Jerome's translation of the Bible into Latin, known as the Vulgate, is kept in the treasury.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Culture and Media, Nina Obuljen Korzinek, who highlighted the importance of this event for Croatian cultural heritage. She said that the opening of this treasury would be a great contribution to the national network of museums, especially diocesan museums.

The minister said that the treasury was a cultural asset "whose value far surpasses Split's tourism offer."

"It is a treasury of the collective memory of the Croatian people," Obuljen Korzinek said, announcing that her ministry, in cooperation with the Split-Dalmatia Archdiocese, would also complete the renovation of the exterior of Saint Domnius' Cathedral.
