The mass dying of Pinna nobilis has rapidly accelerated in recent months, and not months, but weeks, if not even days, remain to save them, the Eko Kvarner association, which organised the conference on Krk island on September 10-12, said in a press release on Sunday.
In the days ahead, scientists will appeal to the president, the prime minister and the parliament speaker to engage all state resources to quarantine the remaining live specimens and to attempt to intensify breeding.
If the relevant authorities fail to pay due attention to this problem and engage enough resources, next year another species will become extinct, the press release said.
