The bust was sculpted by a Russian artist living in Croatia, Aleksandar Zvjagin, and it was unveiled by Opatija Mayor Ivo Dujmic and the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Croatia, Anvar Azimov.
Azimov said that it was a symbol of Russia's good relations with Croatia and that Russia and Croatia had long-standing ties and were connected by their Slavic roots.
He recalled that the Russian Embassy had erected six monuments in Croatia in the past five years, and there was already a bust of Yesenin in Zagreb. The one in Opatija will delight Russian tourists, as well, he added.
Dujmic underscored that the story of Yesenin and Isadora Duncan, who visited Opatija in her lifetime, would further enrich Opatija's attraction for tourists.
