National broadcaster's project of virtual classes during epidemic ends

ZAGREB, June 3 (Hina) - The project of the Croatian Radio and Television (HRT) and the education ministry to enable lower grade pupils to have school during the COVID containment measures was officially closed on Wednesday.

During the ceremony organised to mark the end of the project of televised lessons for elementary school pupils in Grade 1, 2, 3 and 4, HRT director-general Kazimir Bacic thanked the participants in the implementation of the "School on HTV Channel 3."

"We implemented this project over 12 weeks in the circumstances marked by the (COVID-19) lockdown so as to enable pupils from Grades one to four to have access to remote learning. The project has received acclaim from both our children and institutions such as the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). Many TV houses have followed our model, when it comes to education," said Bacic.

More than 120 HRT employees and 60 teachers were engaged in the implementation of the project.

Education Minister Blazenka Divjak thanked the public broadcaster for its cooperation in the project.

On 16 March, virtual classes started on the HRT3 channel as well as on Sports Television, which served as a back-up for virtual classes for students of senior primary school grades and in secondary schools.
