Nine more people in Croatia test positive for coronavirus, 65 in total

ZAGREB, March 17 (Hina) - Nine more people in Croatia have been infected with the novel coronavirus, officially called COVID-19, bringing the total number of those infected to 65, Health Minister Vili Beros told a press conference in Zagreb on Tuesday morning.

A total of 1,014 tests have been performed to date, and 630 contacts are under observation, he added.

"The epidemiological picture in the given circumstances is still very good and we will do our best to ensure that it remains so in the days ahead. However, given the characteristics of this epidemic the number of cases in Croatia is likely to rise in the coming days," Beros said, adding that Croatia's response to the outbreak was prompt and adequate.

He appealed to older people and those with chronic conditions to stay at home and go out only in an emergency. He said that the civil protection service would organise medical and food deliveries for them.

Dr Alemka Markotic of the Fran Mihaljevic Hospital for Infectious Diseases said that the newly-infected patients were not exhibiting severe symptoms.

Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic again called on the public to obey self-isolation rules. He said that they had received over 530 reports of violations of such rules and that 93 people had been fined.
