Minister says Croatia wants to revive topic of EU enlargement

ZAGREB, Feb 27 (Hina) - Croatian Foreign and European Affairs Minister Gordan Grlic Radman said in Prague on Thursday that Croatia wants to revive the topic of EU enlargement, which has not been seriously discussed since 2013, when Croatia joined the EU.

"We want to revive that topic that has been neglected by the European family for a fairly long time and which no one has seriously considered since the last enlargement round and Croatia's accession," the minister said after a ministerial conference of the Visegrad Group and Western Balkan countries.

Grlic Radman said that as the current EU chair, Croatia would work to help achieve "unity and consensus on enlargement" in the EU.

"Since Croatia is no longer an observer in the EU but a creator of European policies, we feel the responsibility and need to put the enlargement topic high on the agenda during Croatia's presidency," the minister said.

All meetings and conferences on EU enlargement to the Western Balkans are part of the preparations for the main event of Croatia's EU presidency, the Zagreb Summit, to be held in May, said the minister.
