The STA news agency said it was not yet known which country Milanovic would visit first and when, "but given that he recently underlined the importance of partner relations with Slovenia a number of times, he might come to Ljubljana, which was the last destination" of his predecessor Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic.
Slovenian media noted that Milanovic opted for a small and short inauguration without representatives of other countries.
The Maribor Vecer said Milanovic underlined in his inauguration speech that he would be constructive, committed, transparent and consistent, and that in foreign policy he would concentrate on points on which development and security could be built on.
In the speech, the new president asked to be forgiven for his past mistakes and those he might make, but added that they had never been deliberate and that having a different opinion was not a mistake, the paper reported.
Slovenian Radio's correspondent noted that Milanovic did not address the public with "Croatians" but "citizens."
For the Slovenian public, Croatia's new president is a sort of personification of Croatia's withdrawal from border arbitration proceedings with Slovenia given that he was prime minister at the time, and the media noted that he chose former Security and Intelligence Agency chief Dragan Lozancic as his national security advisor.
Lozancic, the media said, was "the man who ran the agency" when it secretly listened in to conversations between "Slovenian arbitration agent Simona Drenik and Slovenian arbiter Jernej Sekolec."
The revelation of those contacts prompted Croatia to pull out of the arbitration, whereas Slovenia insists on the implementation of the arbitration award.
Slovenian Television says on its website that during his campaign Milanovic said improving relations with Slovenia was his foreign policy priority and that he mentioned Austria and Slovenia as possible destinations for his first presidential visit.
