Museum Night opens at Zagreb's Arts and Crafts Museum

ZAGREB, Jan 31 (Hina) - Museum Night, which is taking place on Friday night throughout Croatia, has formally opened at Zagreb's Museum of Arts and Crafts, one of the museums that are marking a big anniversary this year, which is also the central theme of the 15th edition of this popular event.

The event has been organised since 2005 by the Croatian Museum Association. The authors and coordinators of the project are Vesna Juric Bulatovic and Dubravka Osrecki Jakelic.

"The audience have recognised the programme's quality and have been supporting it year after year," Juric Bulatovic said, thanking all their partners and associates, with whom they have developed a friendly relationship over time.

"In a way, Museum Night is coming back home, since the initiative for its organisation began in this museum fifteen years ago. In the beginning it was just a great idea, but today it is a phenomenon," said Miroslav Gasparovic, the director of the Museum of Arts and Crafts, which celebrates its 140th anniversary this year.

This year's slogan is "Museums celebrate birthdays, too", and the president of the Croatian Museum Association, Vlasta Krklec, congratulated museums on their big anniversaries - the Museum of Arts and Crafts, the Archaeological Museum Split, which was founded 200 year ago, the Ethnographic Museum, which celebrated its 100th anniversary last year, the Museum of Contemporary Arts, which celebrated its 65th anniversary in 2019 and marked 10 years in a new building.

The Museum Night was opened by Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandic, who congratulated Rijeka as this year's European Capital of Culture.

The number of museums and heritage institutions participating in Museum Night has continued to grow, so that now there are more than 220 of them with thousands of programmes that will be taking place till 1 am, such as museum collection viewing, educational, scientific and entertaining content, concerts and workshops.
