Parliament speaker, European Council president hold talks

ZAGREB, Jan 9 (Hina) - Croatian Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandrokovic on Thursday held talks with European Council President Charles Michel on parliamentary meetings to be held during Croatia's presidency of the EU, the parliament's press service said.

Michel is visiting Croatia on the occasion of the beginning of Croatia's EU presidency.

The two officials discussed the main priorities of Croatia's presidency, and Jandrokovic acquainted Michel with the programme and topics of parliamentary meetings.

Jandrokovic said that Croatia was chairing the EU at a time when Europe was faced with numerous internal and external challenges and that representatives of member-states' parliaments would have an opportunity to contribute in dealing with them.

Jandrokovic and Michel also discussed current topics in the EU on which Croatia will be coordinating joint positions in the next six months - the withdrawal of Great Britain from the EU, the Multiannual Financial Framework and the enlargement policy, the parliament's press service said.
