Croatia's Caritas to sell Christmas trees to collect funds for poor families

ZAGREB, Dec 11 (Hina) - The Croatian Caritas, a major Catholic nongovernmental charitable organisation, will sell 200 Christmas trees in Zagreb's main square on Saturday in a campaign to raise funds for destitute families.

The sale of the Christmas trees, provided by the Croatian forest management company "Hrvatske Sume" and the City of Zagreb, will take place in Jelacic Square from 8 to 14 hours on 14 December, the head of the association, Msgr. Fabijan Svalina, said at a news conference on Wednesday.

This is the 18th year in a row that Caritas organises this action on the third Advent Saturday.

Svalina, who also spoke about other charitable activities aimed at helping people in distress, said that this year's Christmas tree sale fundraiser would be supported by distinguished Croatians, including the manager of the national football team, Zlatko Dalic, tennis player Ana Konjuh, former volleyball player Marija Anzulovic, and other reputable public figures.
