European Heritage Day marked in Krapje

ZAGREB, Sept 21 (Hina) - European Heritage Day was marked in the Sava river village of Krapje on Saturday, showcasing traditional trades, tools, souvenirs and folk customs.

Krapje, located near Jasenovac, about 120 kilometres southeast of Zagreb, is known for its traditional wooden houses many of which have been renovated in recent years and have become a tourist attraction.

"HRK 30 million (€4 million) has been invested in the development of visitor infrastructure in the last three years alone, thanks to EU funds and to the Ministry of Culture and the government," the Director of Lonjsko Polje Nature Park, Ivor Stanivukovic, said.

He said that the main goal of the park was to preserve and promote natural values.

"Once we build an ornithological centre in Cigoc, the European stork village, a project estimated at HRK 50 million, we will become even more interesting to both domestic and foreign visitors," Stanivukovic said.

European Heritage Days are held across Europe in September to present the cultural diversity and rich heritage of the European nations and to draw attention to the need to protect and preserve it.
