Zagorje Economic Fair opens

ZAGREB, Sept 12 (Hina) - The 27th International Zagorje Economic Fair opened in the northern town of Krapina on Thursday, attracting 250 exhibitors from Croatia, Slovenia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In her opening remarks, Agriculture Minister Marija Vuckovic said that Krapina-Zagorje County and northern Croatia were rightfully proud of their economic successes, describing them as export leaders and promoters of the processing industry.

She also spoke of government efforts to help the enterprise sector, saying that the tax burden had been reduced by HRK 6 billion in the three rounds of tax reform carried out so far and a further HRK 3.5 billion would be reduced as part of a fourth round. Administrative costs have been cut by HRK 2 billion, she added.

Krapina-Zagorje County Prefect Zeljko Kolar said that last year the county had generated HRK 4.2 billion in foreign sales revenue, an increase of 10.3% year on year, while at the same time imports reached HRK 2.38 billion. The coverage of imports by exports was 176%.

Last year the number of newly-started businesses in Krapina-Zagorje County increased by 11.5%, while the number of people in work increased by 4.9%. Local businesses generated a total revenue of HRK 13 billion, up 10.6%.

The three-day fair will also feature presentations of the most successful businesses and workshops.
