Romanian lynxes being transferred to Croatia and Slovenia in bid to save population

ZAGREB, March 4 (Hina) - Two lynxes are soon arriving from Romania to Croatia and Slovenia, and they are part of the shipment of planned 14 lynxes that are supposed to be transferred to these two countries over the next five years in a bid to revive the population of this wild cat.

The male four-year-old lynx weighing 21 kilogrammes that has been given to Croatia was caught by a special trap in Sub-Carpathian forests will be sent soon to the mountainous region of Lika in Croatia, a professor of the Zagreb Faculty of Veterinary Medicine says in a press release on Monday.

It is estimated that currently there are 40-60 animals of this rare and endangered species in Croatia and a mere 20 lynxes in Slovenia.
