Elephant Madhubala is set to reunite with her cousins at Karachi's Safari Park sanctuary on 26 November after 15 years of separation and a year of solitary confinement at the Karachi Zoo. Madhubala, one of only three captive elephants in Pakistan, was brought from Tanzania in 2009 along with three kin, but they were separated and she lost her companion, Noor Jehan, in April 2023. Animal welfare organizations, led by FOUR PAWS International, have campaigned for her transfer to a more suitable environment, which includes enriched enclosures with water features and appropriate substrates for her well-being.
