ZAGREB, Sept 6 (Hina) - The coordinating body of Jewish municipalities in Croatia has decided with a majority of votes that Kotel Da-Don will no longer be the chief rabbi for Croatia, the chairman of the coordinating body and head of the Jewish Municipality of Zagreb, Ognjen Kraus, said on Tuesday evening.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting of the coordinating body, Kraus pointed out that the decision was final. He added that it was decided that information on how each municipality had voted would not be made public.

Kraus also said that Kotel Da-Don had attended the meeting and that he had left after the vote.

Sabrina Horovic, head of the Jewish Municipality of Dubrovnik, the oldest Jewish municipality in Croatia, reiterated that Kotel Da-Don had not been fired, but that the Jewish Municipality of Zagreb had refused to renew his contract, which has been renewed every year for the past seven years.

The coordinating body comprises all ten Jewish municipalities in Croatia, with each municipality having one vote, regardless of how many members it has. The Jewish Municipality of Zagreb is the strongest in terms of membership, representing about 80 per cent of all Jews in Croatia.
